In God We Trust Demands SENATOR’S Removal for Lawsuit Against God

WASHINGTON, DC -- The national advocacy group In God We Trust today called on the Nebraska Legislature to remove Senator Ernie Chambers from office after Senator Chambers filed a deliberately frivolous lawsuit against God.

“Senator Chambers’ ridiculous lawsuit is an insult to our legal system, his fellow legislators, and Americans of all political persuasions who respect our courts, and who also respect God and His place in American society,” says the Rt. Rev. Council Nedd, national chairman of In God We Trust.  “The Senator believes his deliberately frivolous lawsuit makes a point about our legal system and the Senator’s view of the Almighty.  However, he knows he has no case.  His actions have no basis in the law and are merely an attempt to disrupt our legal system to further his agenda.  As a duly elected representative of the people, Senator Chambers has a sworn duty respect the rule of law and his constituents.  How would he feel if his constituents mocked and ignored the laws he helped pass?  All this action proves is the Senator’s contempt for both our court system and the voters.  His fellow legislators should remove him from office immediately,” Nedd continued.

“The preamble to the Nebraska State Constitution even begins, ‘We, the people, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom…’, explains Nedd.  “I’ll bet Senator Chambers doesn’t even know that.  And if he does, he clearly doesn’t care.”

Furthermore, Nedd points out, Article I-4 of the state constitution states clearly that, “Religion, morality, and knowledge, however, being essential to good government, it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass suitable laws to protect every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship….”

Bishop Nedd added, “An elected official has a duty to uphold the law, not mock it.  Any other citizen who filed an abusive lawsuit would be held in contempt of court.  A Senator should be held to a higher standard.  For his abuse of the process, contempt of court, contempt of the law, and contempt of God, the Nebraska Legislature should remove Senator Chambers from office.”

The Nebraska Legislature can remove Senator Chambers with a vote of two-thirds of its elected members.

In God We Trust is a national political advocacy effort with nearly 50,000 supporters across the country.  It is organized as a special project of AHEAD, a non-profit organization that has been determined by the IRS to be tax-exempt under the provisions of Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code.  In God We Trust is committed to providing an active voice in opposition to the special interest groups dedicated to banning God, religion, and America’s religious history from public display and public discourse.

Bishop Nedd is a traditional Episcopal priest and serves as the Bishop of the Chesapeake and Northeast for the Episcopal Missionary Church.
